Fergus Burke Set for Scotland Debut Against Fiji
Saracens flyhalf Fergus Burke is set to earn his first Scotland cap this Saturday in a highly anticipated clash against Fiji in Suva. Coach Gregor Townsend has named Burke in the starting line-up, marking a significant moment for the player and the team.
Burke's inclusion isn't the only piece of good news for Scotland. Matt Fagerson, the powerful No. 8, is making his return after recovering from an ankle injury sustained in April. Kyle Steyn is also back on the wing, ending a year-long absence due to injury setbacks. These returns will bolster Scotland's chances in what promises to be a challenging encounter.
The team sees a major reshuffle from the one that triumphed over the Maori All Blacks in Whangarei last Saturday. While Burke featured as a replacement in that game, he wasn't awarded a cap. This Fiji test marks his official entry into the Scotland squad. Burke qualifies for Scotland through his grandfather, having previously represented New Zealand at the under-20 level.
Rory Darge will lead the team as captain for the first time on this tour, with Steyn and Grant Gilchrist serving as vice-captains. In the midfield, Cameron Redpath, fresh from winning the English Premiership with Bath, partners with Tom Jordan to form a new centre combination. Jamie Dobie will be the scrumhalf, linking up with Burke on his debut.
This test match is the second stop on Scotland's Pacific tour. Next weekend, they will face Samoa in Auckland. It's important to note that Scotland is missing eight key players who are currently in Australia with the British & Irish Lions.
