Bangladesh have roared back into contention in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, securing a dominant 83-run victory in the second match held in Dambulla. This emphatic win levels the series at 1-1, setting the stage for a thrilling decider.

After a disappointing performance in the first T20I, Bangladesh made crucial changes to their lineup, resulting in a complete turnaround. Asked to bat first, they posted a competitive total of 177 before dismantling Sri Lanka for a paltry 94 – Sri Lanka's lowest-ever T20I score against Bangladesh and their biggest defeat to the Tigers in this format. It also marks Sri Lanka's lowest T20I score on home soil.

Sri Lanka Collapses Under Pressure

Chasing a seemingly achievable target on a decent pitch, Sri Lanka's innings crumbled rapidly, lasting only 15.2 overs. The collapse began with a moment of complacency from Kusal Mendis, whose lackadaisical single attempt was thwarted by a brilliant direct hit from Shamim Hossain. This proved to be the turning point, triggering a cascade of wickets.

Sri Lanka found themselves reeling at 30 for four within the powerplay, with their top order back in the pavilion. Legspinner Rishad Hossain tightened the screws, claiming three crucial wickets to derail the Sri Lankan chase. Only two Sri Lankan batsmen managed to reach double figures as the middle order succumbed to the pressure. Bangladesh's fielders displayed exceptional commitment, diving and chasing every ball with relentless energy.

Litton Das Leads From the Front

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh had also faced early setbacks, losing both openers cheaply. However, captain Litton Das stepped up, anchoring the innings with a superb 76 off 50 balls, including one boundary and five towering sixes. He benefited from some luck, surviving two dropped catches, and made Sri Lanka pay dearly for their errors. Shamim Hossain provided valuable support, contributing a quickfire 48 off 27 and together they stitched a brisk 77-run partnership.

Shamim Inspired by AB de Villiers

Shamim Hossain revealed his admiration for AB de Villiers, stating that he tries to emulate the South African legend's positive approach to batting. He expressed confidence in his current batting position and the team's chances of winning the series. "I am not worried about my batting position. The spot I am batting in right now, I feel very confident there," said Shamim. "Whenever I go out to bat, my plan is to stay positive."

With the series finely poised, the final T20I promises to be a captivating contest. Both teams will be eager to seize the opportunity and claim the series victory.
