Justice for Pretty? Driver in Teen's Death Finally Faces Court!
NPA Confirms Court Date in Tragic Teen Death Case
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that the case against the driver accused of running over 13-year-old Pretty Mahlangu will finally be heard in court. The tragic incident occurred in June during a traditional coming-of-age ceremony in Germiston, leaving the community devastated.
Pretty Mahlangu lost her life when a 68-year-old woman allegedly drove her car into a group of girls attending the ceremony. The case was initially scheduled to be heard in the Germiston Magistrates Court in July, but it was removed from the court roll to allow for further police investigations.
According to police reports, a culpable homicide case was opened at the Germiston Police Station on June 28th but was provisionally withdrawn pending further inquiries. The woman was arrested on July 2nd and subsequently released on R5,000 station bail after consultation with a prosecutor. However, the case remained unresolved for nearly three weeks, causing frustration and concern among the victim's family and the community.
On Wednesday, a new warrant of arrest was issued for the 68-year-old driver. The NPA has now confirmed that the matter has been placed back on the court roll and will be heard before the Germiston Magistrates Court on Friday.
The community is anxiously awaiting the court proceedings, hoping for justice for Pretty Mahlangu and closure for her grieving family. The case highlights the importance of thorough investigations and timely legal proceedings in ensuring accountability and upholding the rule of law. The NPA's confirmation brings a glimmer of hope that justice will finally be served in this heart-wrenching case.
