Air India Crash: Cockpit Voices Spark New Theories! What REALLY Happened?
Air India Crash Investigation Takes a Dramatic Turn
The preliminary report into the tragic Air India Flight 171 crash, which claimed the lives of 260 people in June, has ignited a fresh wave of speculation and controversy. Instead of providing closure, the 15-page report has raised more questions than answers, particularly concerning the cockpit voice recordings.
Investigators are focusing on a crucial detail: shortly after take-off, both fuel-control switches on the Boeing 787 abruptly moved to the "cut-off" position. This action, which halts fuel supply to the engines and causes a total power loss, is typically only performed after landing. The aircraft, only 12 years old, crashed into a crowded neighbourhood in Ahmedabad.
The Haunting Question in the Cockpit
The cockpit voice recording captured a chilling exchange. One pilot is heard asking the other why “did he cut-off”, and the other replies that he didn’t. The recording does not identify who said what. The co-pilot was piloting the aircraft during take-off, while the captain monitored the instruments.
The switches were subsequently returned to their normal inflight position, activating automatic engine relight. At the time of the crash, one engine was regaining thrust, while the other had relit but had not yet recovered full power. The plane was airborne for less than a minute before the devastating impact.
Speculation and Accusations Emerge
Since the release of the preliminary report, numerous speculative theories have surfaced. A comprehensive report is expected within the next year. Reports from The Wall Street Journal and Reuters suggest that the investigation is now focusing on the senior pilot in the cockpit.
Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera claims its sources revealed that the first officer repeatedly questioned the captain about why he “shut off the engines.” This detail has further fueled debate and speculation about the events leading up to the crash.
