KNUST SHS: Assistant Headmaster Sacked Over Viral Video
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken swift action, removing an Assistant Headmaster from his position at KNUST Senior High School (KNUST SHS) following the circulation of a disturbing viral video. The video allegedly shows the Assistant Headmaster engaging in inappropriate conduct with a female student.
According to reports, the incident, captured in a 16-second video filmed by the student, shows the teacher placing his head on her shoulder. The GES has condemned the act and emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the teaching profession and ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
"Management, in line with our commitment to protect the integrity of the teaching profession and the welfare and safety of students, has removed the Assistant Headmaster from office," a statement from the GES confirmed. The statement further indicated that the teacher is banned from the school campus while investigations are underway, in accordance with the service's code of conduct.
The GES has assured the public that due process will be followed to ensure appropriate disciplinary action is taken against the headmaster, as per the education service's code of conduct.
This incident is not the first of its kind. In November 2018, the GES dismissed nine teachers and senior staff from various senior high schools for similar acts of sexual and immoral misconduct. The GES hopes that such dismissals will deter other teachers and headmasters from engaging in such unacceptable behavior.
Public Reaction and Concerns
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and concern among education stakeholders and the general public. Many are calling for a thorough investigation to identify and address any systemic issues that may contribute to such incidents.
GES Reaffirms Commitment to Child Protection
The GES has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct and any actions that compromise the safety, dignity, and well-being of students. The service reiterated its commitment to upholding the highest standards of child protection, discipline, and professionalism in all schools.
The investigation initiated by the government has generated significant public interest, with many Ghanaians demanding a wider scrutiny to expose others who may be abusing their positions of authority.
