KNUST SHS: GES Sacks Assistant Headmaster Over Viral Video

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken swift action, removing an assistant headmaster from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Senior High School following a viral video showing inappropriate conduct. The 16-second video, reportedly filmed by a student, depicts the assistant headmaster placing his head on her shoulder.

The GES has released a statement emphasizing their commitment to protecting the integrity of the teaching profession and ensuring the welfare and safety of students. "Management, in line with our commitment… has removed the assistant headmaster from office," the statement read. Furthermore, the assistant headmaster is banned from the KNUST SHS campus pending further investigation.

The GES assures that due process will be followed to ensure appropriate disciplinary measures are taken in accordance with the service's code of conduct. The statement explicitly condemns any actions that compromise the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of students.

Previous Incidents of Misconduct

This isn't the first instance of the GES addressing allegations of teacher misconduct. In November 2018, nine teachers and senior staff members from various senior high schools were dismissed for sexual and immoral misconduct. These dismissals served as a warning against engaging in similar behaviors.
