Police dey investigate Asutifi North MP, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, sake of say dem accuse am say he dey incite mob wey attack National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) team for Hwidiem, Ahafo Region. Inspector General of Police don direct CID headquarters make dem take over the case.
Wetin Happen?
NAIMOS Director of Operations and ein team dem bin intercept illegal miners near Bronikrom on Saturday, November 1, 2025, and dem arrest some suspects. Dem find pistol, ammunition, unregistered Range Rover, Toyota RAV4, and mobile phones from dem.
Police talk say as the NAIMOS team dey prepare to hand over the suspects to Hwidiem Police Station, MP Kwaku Addo allegedly arrive with some people and demand say dem release the suspects. When dem refuse, the group forcibly remove the handcuffs and chase the NAIMOS team away.
MP Denies Incitement
Mr. Kwaku Addo don deny say he incite the mob. He talk say he only go there to restore calm. But police say dem dey investigate am for ein alleged role for the incident.
Police Statement
According to police statement, mob wey dey number about 600, allegedly incited by the MP, later besiege Hwidiem Police Station demanding the release of the miners and seize vehicles. Dem vandalize the Director's vehicle, damage parts of the police station, and threaten staff.
