Los Angeles - Jazzy Davidson scored 20 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds to lead the USC Trojans to an 85-44 victory over the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles. Londynn Jones also added 20 points for the Trojans, who bounced back from a recent loss to Notre Dame.
Davidson, a freshman, had a strong first half, scoring 14 points and collecting nine rebounds as USC built a 43-19 lead. The Trojans' defense was also dominant, recording 15 blocked shots in the game.
Jones, a transfer from UCLA, shot 7 of 9 from the field, including four 3-pointers. Laura Williams contributed four blocks, while Yakiya Milton added three.
Chloe Larry and Cam Mathews each scored 12 points for Tennessee Tech. Reghan Grimes, the Golden Eagles' leading scorer, was held to just seven points. Tennessee Tech struggled from the free throw line, making only 11 of 25 attempts.
USC coach Lindsay Gottlieb emphasized the importance of the win after a tough loss, stating, "The only thing you can do is utilize those lessons that are painful to get better."
Davidson's Double-Double
Davidson's double-double was her first in college. She also added four assists and two blocks to her impressive stat line. Gottlieb praised Davidson's effort on both ends of the court.
Defensive Dominance
The Trojans' 15 blocked shots were the second-most in a game since 1984. Gottlieb highlighted the team's length and improved interior defense.
USC will host Pepperdine in their next game, while Tennessee Tech will host Lipscomb.
The Women of Troy displayed utter dominance in the first half against the Golden Eagles, all in due part of Davidson's early production from the floor. The freshman shot 6-9 from the floor in the first half with 14 points and 9 boards. Senior guard Londynn Jones wasn't too far behind her teammate as she had double-digit points herself, notching 10 on 4-6 shooting, and went a perfect 2-2 from beyond the arc.
With the tremendous amount of production from both sides of the floor, the Women of Troy had found themselves on a 20-0 run with 4:34 left before the first half concluded.
The defense, on the other hand, was just as effective as the offensive production, as the Women of Troy were throwing themselves a block party at the Galen Center, as they notched 15 total team blocks, the second most in program history since 1984.
