Von Miller: Broncos Reunion Denied, GM Aspirations Clear

Washington Commanders pass rusher Von Miller recently revealed his attempt to rejoin the Denver Broncos during NFL free agency. Speaking on his "Free Range" podcast, Miller shared that he contacted Broncos General Manager George Paton about a potential return to Denver.

However, Paton explained that the Broncos already had Jonah Elliss and Dondrea Tillman backing up starters Nik Bonitto and Jonathon Cooper. Elliss and Tillman also contribute on special teams, a factor Miller acknowledged he couldn't offer at this stage in his career.

"They both play special teams and they do all the grunt work," Miller said. "You know, me, I'm a three-point shooter. Like, I'm gonna come in, I'm gonna shoot the three point. Like, when I'm in the game, I'm ball-hogging, I'm just trying to make the play, then they take me out. But they didn't really need that, you know. They didn't really need that this year."

Miller, now with the Commanders, signed a one-year deal this offseason. He expressed understanding of the Broncos' roster construction and revealed his aspirations to become a general manager in the future, a goal inspired by Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane.

Despite the Broncos declining a reunion this year, Miller left the door open for a potential return down the road. "Who knows what it will look like this coming up year," Miller said.

The Commanders are set to host the Broncos in Week 13. While a Broncos reunion wasn't in the cards for 2024, Miller's connection to Denver remains strong, and his future ambitions are now firmly in sight.

Miller's Denver Legacy

Von Miller will always be remembered as a Bronco. Even though a return to Denver may be unlikely, Miller holds a special place in the hearts of Broncos fans. He even reached out to GM George Paton to see if there was a spot for him on the team. Although there wasn't room for him, Miller is still happy he reached out.

Future as a GM

Miller's conversation with Paton was more about him taking the steps to get into a front office. He knows he wants to be a GM someday, a goal inspired and encouraged by Bills GM Brandon Beane.
