Accra, Ghana – Sofo Rashid Tanko-Computer, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC), has strongly refuted claims circulating on social media that his PhD from Kingsnow University is fake. Speaking on Joy Prime’s morning show, Mr. Tanko-Computer dismissed the allegations, labeling those questioning his academic qualifications as “foolish” and unworthy of his attention.

The controversy arose following social media comments challenging the legitimacy of his PhD. Mr. Tanko-Computer addressed these concerns during a television interview with Joy News earlier this week, stating firmly that his credentials are valid. A video of the interview has been widely circulated online.

The GIFEC CEO first publicly announced his connection to Kingsnow University back in December 2016 on Facebook. In his post, he shared the news of receiving his Doctor of Philosophy in Public Administration from the institution, expressing gratitude to his family and Prof Alex for their support.

This incident comes at a time when concerns regarding the use of unverified academic titles are gaining national prominence. In April 2025, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) issued a public warning against the misuse of titles such as “Doctor” and “Professor” by individuals who lack recognised and accredited qualifications.

The public discourse surrounding Mr. Tanko-Computer’s PhD highlights the increasing scrutiny being placed on academic credentials within Ghanaian society. It also underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in matters of education and professional qualifications.

Kingsnow University Under Scrutiny

The legitimacy of Kingsnow University itself is now being questioned, with many demanding further verification of its accreditation and operational status. Further investigations are underway to ascertain the university's standing and the validity of degrees awarded by the institution.

GIFEC's Mandate and Public Trust

As the acting CEO of GIFEC, an organization crucial to Ghana's electronic communication infrastructure development, Mr. Tanko-Computer’s qualifications are undeniably important to public trust. The resolution of this issue is critical to maintaining confidence in GIFEC’s leadership and its ability to effectively fulfill its mandate.

  • GIFEC plays a vital role in Ghana's tech infrastructure.
  • Tanko-Computer's PhD is crucial for public trust.
  • GTEC's warning adds weight to the matter.
