Ghana Black Queens dey prepare to lock horns against reigning champions South Africa for their Group C opener for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) for Morocco. The match dey come on dis evening, July 7, 2025, for Stade Municipal d'Oujda. Kick-off na 6pm GMT.

After some time wey dem no shine too much, the Queens dey aim to show say dem still be force for African women’s football. Instead of just dey eye the trophy, dem dey focus on bringing back the pride and respect wey dem used to get.

New coach, Kim Björkegren from Sweden, dey lead the team with fresh energy. E dey build the team around young players, plenty of dem from Ghana U-20 squad. Björkegren get only six months to train the team. Dem win Malawi 3-1 for friendly match, but dem lose to Benin (4-2) and Nigeria (3-1). South Africa go wan use dis weakness against dem.

But Björkegren still get hope. “We no be the favourites, but I know say we get the power to beat any team for dis group,” e talk. “We dey more fit and smart pass how we dey a month ago. I dey look forward to the tournament and I believe say we go succeed.”

Before the tournament, dem give captaincy roles to Portia Boakye, Jennifer Cudjoe, and Cynthia Findiib Konlan. Boakye, wey be seasoned forward, go continue as captain.
