Azumah Resources Ghana has officially kickstarted construction of the Black Volta gold mine, located in the Upper West Region of Ghana. After securing funding from shareholders, the company is now moving ahead with the full-scale development.

The project is being led by Ghanaians, with support from both local and international investors. Azumah Resources is working closely with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, as well as the Minerals Commission, to ensure all necessary regulatory approvals are in place for smooth execution.

What's Happening Now?

Preparatory works are already underway at the site. This includes infrastructure development, civil works, and the recruitment of personnel. The mine is expected to bring significant socioeconomic benefits to the Upper West Region and Ghana as a whole.

Job Creation

  • The construction phase alone is expected to generate over 1,000 jobs.
  • Hundreds more permanent roles will be created once the mine is operational.

Challenges Overcome

The project has faced some hurdles along the way. These included the failure of Engineers & Planners (E&P) to complete civil works and legal challenges that caused delays to the original timeline. However, these issues have been resolved, paving the way for the current construction phase.

Azumah Resources is planning a formal ground-breaking ceremony soon, in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources. Project director Rob Ciccini expressed his gratitude to shareholders for their continued commitment to the project and to Ghana.

He also highlighted the close collaboration with the government and the Minerals Commission, which has been crucial in ensuring the project's success after the termination of the agreement with E&P.
