The Philadelphia Phillies have made several roster moves before their road trip finale against the Washington Nationals. Key among these is the activation of Alec Bohm from the 10-day injured list. Bohm, who had been sidelined with a rib injury, is back in the lineup and batting cleanup, marking his first MLB game since July 18.

Adding to the roster changes, Aaron Nola has been reinstated from the 60-day injured list and started Sunday's game against the Nationals, his first appearance since May 14, also due to a rib injury. To make room for these returning players, Otto Kemp was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, and Cal Stevenson was released. Additionally, Daniel Robert has been reinstated from the 15-day IL and immediately optioned to Triple-A.

Bohm's Return: A Boost for the Phillies

Manager Rob Thomson expressed optimism about Bohm's return, highlighting his defensive improvements and the depth he brings to the lineup. "I know he got off to a slow start this year, but he constantly got better as the season went on and his defense has been really, really good," Thomson said. He also noted the protection Bohm offers to Bryce Harper in the batting order.

Kemp's Demotion: A Need for Consistent At-Bats

Otto Kemp, who made his major league debut in June, has been sent back down to Triple-A to gain more consistent playing time. Despite a strong start in Triple-A, Kemp struggled to maintain his performance in the majors, and the Phillies believe he needs regular at-bats to further develop. "He just needs at-bats," Thomson explained, emphasizing Kemp's importance to the team's future.

Sosa's Utility Role

With Bohm back, Edmundo Sosa will likely shift back into a utility role. Sosa had been starting frequently but will likely see reduced playing time, primarily facing left-handed pitching. This adjustment allows the Phillies to maximize their roster based on matchups and player availability.
