James Gunn's DCU: Corporations Are Key! Forget Good vs. Evil?
James Gunn is shaking things up with the DCU, and it's not just about Superman and Batman anymore! According to Gunn, corporations like Lex Luthor's Luthor Corp and Wayne Enterprises will be just as vital as the heroes themselves.
A Different Universe: No NYC, No LA
In a recent interview, Gunn revealed that the DCU is building a unique world. "There is not a New York City in our DCU. There is not a Los Angeles in our DCU. There is Metropolis, Evergreen, and Coast City. It's a different map," he explained.
Three Factions Vie for Power
Gunn envisions a DCU with three main power players: Metahumans (superheroes), governments, and corporations. He emphasized the corporations' importance, naming Luthor Corp, Lord Tech, Stagg Industries, and Wayne Enterprises as the four major companies vying for domination.
Corporations: Amoral, Not Evil?
Gunn clarified that these corporations aren't inherently evil. "The corporations in themselves aren't evil. Corporations are amoral," he stated, adding that it depends on the morality of their leaders. He pointed to Lex Luthor, who, despite being a "pretty bad guy," has also done great things through his corporation.
DCU vs. MCU: A Different Approach
Gunn is intentionally steering the DCU away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe's formula. He describes his vision as closer to "Game of Thrones" or "Star Wars," focusing on building a cohesive universe and telling individual stories within it.
What This Means for the Future
With corporations playing such a significant role, the DCU promises complex narratives and moral ambiguities. It's a departure from traditional superhero stories and could lead to a more nuanced and engaging universe. Get ready for a world where the lines between good and evil are blurred!
