NBA Star Malik Beasley Evicted! Gambling Probe & Financial Woes?
Malik Beasley's Troubles Mount: Eviction Amidst Gambling Investigation
Former Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley is facing a cascade of off-court challenges. The 28-year-old athlete has reportedly been evicted from his apartment in downtown Detroit, adding to his already significant legal and financial woes.
Beasley resided at The Stott, a high-rise building owned by Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, known for its modern amenities. Court documents indicate that Beasley's landlord filed two lawsuits against him this year for unpaid rent totaling over $21,500. The most recent case involved $7,355 in unpaid rent, and a default judgment was issued against Beasley due to his lack of response.
Gambling Investigation Derails Contract Negotiations
This eviction comes on the heels of a difficult offseason for Beasley. Earlier this year, negotiations for a potential three-year, $42 million contract with the Detroit Pistons were underway. However, these discussions reportedly stalled after news broke in June concerning a federal investigation into suspicious betting activities related to NBA games he played in while with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Reports suggest that at least one sportsbook observed unusual betting patterns on Beasley's player props during the 2023-24 season. Beasley's attorney, Steve Haney, emphasizes that no charges have been filed and asserts Beasley's right to be presumed innocent.
Financial Difficulties and Alleged Debts
Beyond the gambling investigation, Beasley's financial situation is under scrutiny. His former marketing agency, Hazan Sports Management Group, claims that he defaulted on a $650,000 advance. Furthermore, there are allegations of outstanding smaller debts to various service providers, including a barber, dentist, lender, and, now, his landlord.
The situation is developing, and further updates are expected as the legal proceedings unfold. Beasley's future in the NBA remains uncertain as he navigates these complex challenges.
