Mazda CX-60 Lands in Malaysia: Is This the SUV You've Been Waiting For?
The Mazda CX-60 has officially arrived in Malaysia, making a splash with its rear-wheel-drive platform and a 2.5L Skyactiv-G petrol engine. Priced at RM200,510 (on-the-road, without insurance in Peninsular Malaysia), this new SUV is positioned as a premium offering from the Japanese manufacturer.
A Premium SUV Experience
Imported directly from Mazda's Hofu plant in Yamaguchi, Japan, the CX-60 enters the Malaysian market as a fully imported (CBU) model. This positions it slightly above the top-tier CX-5 variant in terms of pricing, offering a more exclusive and refined driving experience.
The initial offering is the CX-60 2.5L 2WD High, featuring a 2,488 cc naturally aspirated inline-four cylinder petrol engine. This engine delivers 189 hp (191 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 261 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm, providing ample power for a smooth and responsive ride. The power is delivered to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Skyactiv Architecture and Dimensions
The CX-60 is built on Mazda's Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture, designed for larger vehicles with a longitudinally mounted engine and rear-wheel-drive layout. This platform also underpins the three-row CX-80, which was also launched in Malaysia.
Dimensionally, the CX-60 measures 4,740 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,680 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,870 mm. It boasts a kerb weight of 1,770 kg and a ground clearance of 175 mm. Compared to the CX-5, the CX-60 is longer and wider, with a longer wheelbase, offering more interior space and a more commanding presence on the road.
Suspension and Brakes
The CX-60 features a sophisticated suspension system with double wishbones at the front and a multi-link arrangement at the rear. This setup, combined with fixed-rate springs and dampers, aims to provide a balance of comfort and handling. Electric power steering enhances the driving experience, while ventilated disc brakes ensure confident stopping power.
