UMass Lowell Welcomes Class of 2029 & River Hawks Soccer Update!

UMass Lowell is buzzing with activity as it welcomes the Class of 2029! The university recently held its convocation ceremony at the Tsongas Center, marking the official start of the academic journey for the incoming freshmen and transfer students. The event, held on September 2, 2025, featured speeches from university leaders, including Chancellor Julie Chen, and student representatives like Student Government Association President Gavin Robillard. The UMass Lowell chorus and marching band also provided entertainment, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

Bill Lefebvre, a UMass Lowell Class of 2024 graduate, delivered the keynote address, offering words of wisdom and encouragement to the new students as they embark on their college careers. The Air Force ROTC Detachment 345 presented the colors, adding a touch of formality to the proceedings.

River Hawks Women's Soccer: September Home Games

Meanwhile, on the athletic front, the UMass Lowell women's soccer team (1-3-1) is gearing up for a series of home games at Cushing Field. They kicked off September with a match against Central Connecticut State (CCSU) on September 3rd, followed by a game against Boston University on September 7th.

In their recent game against Kansas State, sophomore Rachel Welch recorded five saves in goal. Following that, Welch posted her first collegiate shutout in a 0-0 draw against Massachusetts. Nina Hertz-Saebbö was active offensively, tallying six shots.

CCSU entered their game against UMass Lowell with a 0-3-1 record. Rachel Wygant scored their lone goal against Army West Point, with Emma Radonic assisting. Erica Schnable started in net for CCSU, making five saves.
