Helldivers 2: No Social Hub Now, But Maybe Next Game?!
Helldivers 2 fans clamoring for a Destiny-style social hub might have to wait. While not coming to Helldivers 2, Arrowhead Game Studios' CEO, Shams Jorjani, has indicated that a social hub is "on the feature list"... for their next game.
Currently, Helldivers 2 uses spaceships as small staging areas where up to three players can prepare for missions. Some players have requested a larger social hub to better connect with the community and show off their hard-earned gear, drawing comparisons to Destiny 2's Tower.
When a fan suggested a social hub space station on Discord, Jorjani responded that it's on the list for the "next one." This sparked speculation about Helldivers 3, but Jorjani quickly clarified that he was referring to Arrowhead's next project, not Helldivers 3.
“This was about our next game,” said Jorjani, “not HD3.”
This clarification leaves fans wondering what Arrowhead's next project might be. While a Helldivers sequel seems inevitable given the game's massive success since its February 2024 release, it appears to be a long way off. Production director Alex Bolle stated in April that they want Helldivers 2 "to be around for years and years and years to come." The studio continues to support Helldivers 2 with updates, including the recent Into the Unjust update which added Hive Worlds.
The focus remains on expanding and improving Helldivers 2. As Johan Pilestedt, Arrowhead's former CEO and now creative director, mentioned last year, they are essentially "growing Helldivers 2 into Helldivers 3" with the constant stream of new content and features.
What could Arrowhead's next game be?
The possibilities are endless, and the clarification by Jorjani has added fuel to the fire. Could it be a new IP, or a sequel to another of their titles, such as Magicka? Only time will tell!
