Baltimore Orioles fans held their breath as news broke that second baseman Jackson Holliday underwent an MRI on his knee. The injury sidelined him for the second consecutive game, raising concerns about his availability as the season winds down. Interim manager Tony Mansolino provided a cautious update, stating, "I’m hopeful he’s in there tomorrow. We’ll see what it looks like the next couple of days." Holliday himself reportedly told Mansolino that his knee felt better, offering a glimmer of hope.

Mansolino emphasized the team's cautious approach, explaining that if they were in a pennant race, Holliday would likely be playing. However, given their current position, they are prioritizing the young player's long-term health. "We’re just trying to be smart with the kid," Mansolino stated.

Adding to the injury concerns, catcher/first baseman Samuel Basallo was hit on the right wrist during Wednesday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. While he was held out of the lineup, Mansolino indicated that Basallo could potentially play if the situation were more urgent. "If this was a must-win, I could see him probably playing today," Mansolino said. Basallo reported feeling much better and anticipates being able to play this weekend, describing his status as "day-to-day."

Beyond the immediate injury updates, Mansolino praised Holliday's performance throughout the season, acknowledging the significant demands placed on the young player. Having appeared in 146 games, Holliday has been a consistent presence in the Orioles' lineup. "Listen, what we’ve asked of this kid this year has been a lot, and I do feel like he’s answered in a lot of ways," Mansolino commented. He further noted the pressure and stress Holliday has faced, especially considering his age.

As the season concludes, the Orioles are focusing on Holliday's continued development, aiming for him to take the next step offensively. Mansolino expressed confidence in Holliday's support system, highlighting the guidance he receives from his father, Matt Holliday, and the team's hitting coaches. The Orioles will finish their home schedule with a Thursday afternoon game against the Rays before heading to New York for a three-game series against the Yankees.
