The track and field world mourns the loss of Eliud Kipsang, a former NCAA 1500m record holder, who passed away at the young age of 28. News of his death has sent shockwaves through the athletic community, leaving many heartbroken.

A spokesperson for the University of Alabama confirmed Kipsang's passing. According to a GoFundMe campaign organized to help with funeral expenses, Eliud suffered a cardiac arrest on Friday, June 6th, 2025, and was immediately transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, WA. He was admitted to the intensive care unit, but despite the dedicated efforts of the medical staff, he tragically died on Tuesday, June 10th, 2025. The sudden loss has deeply affected his family, friends, and teammates.

Remembering Eliud Kipsang's Achievements

Eliud Kipsang left an indelible mark on collegiate athletics. In April 2022, he achieved a remarkable feat by setting the collegiate record in the men's 1500m with a time of 3:33.74 at the Bryan Clay Invitational. This record stood until Villanova's Liam Murphy surpassed it this outdoor season. Kipsang currently holds the No. 5 position on the NCAA Outdoor 1500m list.
