Traffic Alert: Crash Near Wisconsin Dells Causes Road Closures on WIS 16
A vehicle crash near Wisconsin Dells caused significant road closures on Wisconsin Highway 16 (WIS 16) early Thursday morning, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT). The incident occurred before 4:30 a.m., impacting commuters and travelers in the area.
WisDOT reported that all lanes of WIS 16 were closed between Lewiston Station Road and New Haven Road, located near Wisconsin Dells. This closure caused considerable delays as authorities worked to clear the scene and investigate the crash. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Department was the primary agency responsible for managing the incident.
Initial estimates from the Sheriff’s Department indicated that the road closures would last approximately two hours. However, WisDOT later confirmed that all lanes were reopened to traffic by 8:40 a.m.
While details surrounding the cause of the crash remain limited, the reopening of the highway has alleviated congestion and allowed traffic to return to normal flow. Motorists are still advised to exercise caution when traveling through the area as crews may still be present for cleanup operations.
