Oscar Piastri has revealed why he's consistently chosen to forgo McLaren's latest front suspension upgrade, despite teammate Lando Norris utilizing it. The upgrade, introduced at the Canadian Grand Prix and also used in Austria by Norris, isn't a straightforward performance enhancer. Instead, it appears to have boosted Norris's confidence behind the wheel.

While Norris outpaced Piastri in Canada, a Q3 error hampered his starting position. At the Red Bull Ring, Norris secured a win, with Piastri closely matched on race day. Piastri addressed the suspension and his reasons for not using it ahead of the British Grand Prix.

"I’ve not used it ever yet,” Piastri stated at Silverstone. “I think the thing is, for me, it’s not an upgrade. It’s just something that is different. It makes some things potentially a bit better. It makes some things a bit worse. If it was just all benefits, I would be putting it on with no questions asked.”

Piastri elaborated, “But for me, I’ve not really struggled with that kind of particular feeling. The year’s been going pretty well, so I’m more keen to just keep the car consistent and worry about how we get the most out of the set-up and the other upgrades we actually have than this change to the suspension.” In essence, Piastri prefers the familiarity and consistency of his current setup.

Piastri's Silverstone Affection

Looking ahead, Piastri hopes to achieve his first Formula 1 victory or podium finish at Silverstone. He expressed his fondness for the circuit. "I think for me, Silverstone is easily one of my favourite tracks of the year,” he explained. “I always say Spa is my favourite, but here is probably second or third. And yeah, it’s a track I’ve got a lot of memories at."
