Dixon Steals Victory! Palou's Shocking Mistake at Mid-Ohio
Scott Dixon capitalized on a rare error by teammate Alex Palou to snatch a dramatic victory at The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Presented by the All-New 2026 Passport. Palou, who had dominated the race, ran wide on Turn 4 with just five laps remaining, allowing Dixon to surge ahead and secure his 59th career win.
The victory extends Dixon's remarkable streak of winning at least one race in 21 consecutive seasons, dating back to 2005, and recording a victory in 23 seasons overall. The six-time series champion crossed the finish line a mere .4201 of a second ahead of Palou, marking the closest finish of the season.
Christian Lundgaard secured the third spot in his No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet, adding to the excitement of the race. Palou, the NTT P1 Award winner, seemed destined for his seventh victory of the season before his unexpected miscue.
Earlier in the weekend, Palou showcased his incredible speed by clinching the pole position for the race. He recorded a lap time of 1 minute, 5.0215 seconds in the No. 10 Open AI Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, securing his third pole of the season and ninth of his career. Palou's impressive performance in qualifying highlighted the exceptional speed and preparation of the Chip Ganassi Racing team.
"Ever since I started with CGR, we’ve had great cars," Palou said. "But we’ve always struggled with qualifying up front. So, this year it has been phenomenal. The speed we have in the cars at every single racetrack we show up at is amazing."
The race also saw impressive performances from other drivers, including Kyffin Simpson, who achieved a career-best third-place qualifying position, and Nolan Siegel, who qualified fourth. The event at Mid-Ohio was filled with unexpected twists and turns, ultimately leading to Dixon's opportunistic victory.
