Baltimore and the surrounding areas are facing a double whammy of severe weather this week: a dangerous heat wave and the threat of strong thunderstorms. Residents are urged to take precautions and stay informed as conditions evolve.
Heat Advisory in Effect
A Heat Advisory is currently in effect, with heat index values expected to climb as high as 106 degrees. The National Weather Service advises limiting outdoor activity, staying hydrated, and seeking air-conditioned spaces whenever possible. If you must work outdoors, take frequent breaks in shaded or cooled areas. Checking on vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly or those with chronic illnesses, is also highly recommended.
Severe Thunderstorm Threat
Adding to the danger, a line of severe thunderstorms is moving through the region, bringing the potential for damaging winds, heavy downpours, and frequent lightning. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for many areas, including Baltimore County and surrounding regions.

Expect highs in the low to mid 90s before the storms arrive, with heat index values potentially exceeding 105 degrees. Damaging wind gusts, torrential rainfall, and frequent lightning are all possible, particularly during the afternoon and early evening hours. Flash flooding is also a concern, especially in areas that receive repeated rounds of heavy rain.
