Jorge Polanco Achieves HUGE Milestone! Mariners Fans Go Wild!
Seattle Mariners fans are celebrating a significant achievement by veteran infielder Jorge Polanco. During Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Polanco reached a remarkable career milestone: his 1,000th hit!
The Mariners, fresh off a demanding 17-game stretch, capped off their homestand with a 1-0 victory, sweeping the Pirates in the process. The historic moment came in the bottom of the first inning when Polanco singled to left field off Pirates' ace Paul Skenes.
Polanco entered the homestand with 994 career hits and made the most of his opportunities. Over six games against the Kansas City Royals and Pirates, he batted .316 (6-for-19) with three doubles, a home run, and an RBI. This performance solidified his place in Mariners' history and showcased his enduring talent.
The veteran returned to the Mariners this offseason on a one-year, $7.75 million contract. Seattle initially acquired him in a trade with the Minnesota Twins on January 29, 2024. Despite facing injury challenges in his first season in the Pacific Northwest, Polanco remained a valuable asset. In 118 games, he scored 43 runs, hit 11 doubles and 16 home runs, and drove in 45 RBIs, slashing .213/.296/.355 with a .651 OPS.
After the Mariners declined a $12 million club option for the 2025 season, Polanco became a free agent before re-signing with the team. This season, the switch-hitting veteran has been carefully managed, receiving scheduled days off to address knee concerns and initially hitting exclusively from the left side as a designated hitter. However, he has since returned to hitting from both sides and has made occasional starts at second base in recent weeks.
So far this season, Polanco has scored 28 runs in 72 games, with 12 doubles and 12 home runs, and 39 RBIs. His current slash line stands at .253/.306/.449 with a .755 OPS. Mariners fans are hoping for a strong finish to the season from the veteran infielder!
