Urgent Weather Alert: Flash Flooding Hits Southern New York
Southern New York is facing a critical situation as flash flooding threatens Tioga and Broome counties. Governor Kathy Hochul issued a warning Sunday evening, urging residents to take immediate precautions as heavy rains continue to batter the region.
"Tioga and Broome Counties are currently under a dangerous flash flood warning," Hochul stated, emphasizing the severity of the situation. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the Newark Valley region, effective until 11:30 p.m.
Rainfall Totals and Forecast
Between 3 and 4.5 inches of rain have already fallen, and the NWS anticipates an additional 1 to 2 inches per hour late Sunday evening. Surrounding areas are also at risk of further rainfall, potentially exacerbating the already dangerous conditions.
