Francisco Lindor is finally an All-Star for the New York Mets! On Tuesday night in Atlanta, he'll take the field representing the Mets at the 2025 All-Star Game, likely facing a chorus of boos from rival fans. Acquired from Cleveland in January 2021, Lindor has consistently been one of baseball's top performers, making this his first All-Star appearance with the Mets.

"It’s a real honor,” Lindor stated, “to be able to take the field in Atlanta as a Met. I’m looking forward to it. There’s a lot of good people in this organization, and to be able to represent them, I’ll do that with a lot of pride and utmost respect.”

Consider the league leaders in wins above replacement (WAR) among position players from 2021 to 2024. Lindor's consistently high performance makes his previous All-Star snubs somewhat baffling. He was among the top players who hadn't received the All-Star nod until now.

According to reports, Lindor is ready to hear the boos at Truist Park in Atlanta. The Mets will be well-represented in their rival's ballpark. With Lindor, Pete Alonso, Edwin Diaz, and David Peterson representing the club for the National League, the Mets have their most All-Stars since 2022.

Lindor's Place in the Lineup

Lindor is slated to bat eighth for the National League. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has positioned him between Cubs stars Kyle Tucker and Pete Crow-Armstrong in a loaded lineup featuring Shohei Ohtani, Ronald Acuña Jr., and Ketel Marte.

Why the Wait?

From 2021 through 2024, Lindor showcased exceptional skills. However, the National League boasted fierce competition at the shortstop position. Trea Turner and Dansby Swanson also shone brightly, potentially impacting Lindor's chances in previous years. Despite the competition, Lindor's consistent performance made his absence from previous All-Star games noticeable.

Ultimately, Lindor's All-Star selection is well-deserved and a testament to his dedication and talent. Mets fans and baseball enthusiasts alike can now celebrate his long-awaited recognition on the national stage.
