Ex-VOA Employee Charged! Did He Threaten to Kill Marjorie Taylor Greene?
A former Voice of America (VOA) employee, Seth Jason, 64, of Maryland, has been arrested and indicted on multiple charges for allegedly making repeated death threats against Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and her family. The U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) apprehended Jason on Thursday, following an investigation into threats spanning from October 2023 to January 2025.
The four-count indictment includes charges of influencing a federal official by threat, influencing a federal official by threatening a family member, interstate communications with a threat to kidnap or injure, and anonymous telecommunications harassment. Authorities also seized a laptop, several telephones, an iPad, and multiple thumb drives during the arrest.
Details of the Alleged Threats
According to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, the threats were made “repeatedly and continuously.” Jason allegedly targeted Rep. Greene, her family, and her staff. Some of the statements attributed to Jason include chilling phrases like, "I'm looking forward to your book signing. We are all armed and ready to take care of you. We're coming after you and your staff, and we are locked and loaded. We're going to take you all out. We've got our AK-47s. You're going to get one between the eyes. Bam, bam, bam."
These threats also extended to Greene's staff members and their families, adding another layer of severity to the case.
VOA Connection and Reserve Officer Status
Adding to the seriousness of the allegations, Pirro emphasized that Jason was a former full-time federal government employee at Voice of America. He allegedly used phone lines in the control rooms where broadcasters were reporting to make the threats. Furthermore, Jason was a volunteer reserve officer for the Anne Arundel County Police Department in Maryland since 2016. The police department has since stated that Jason is no longer affiliated with them, emphasizing that reserve officers are unarmed and have no police authority.
Jason was expected to make his initial court appearance in Washington on Thursday. The investigation is ongoing.
"No one should have to live their life looking over their shoulder every day and wondering if those threats are about to be fulfilled and about to come true,” said acting US Attorney Jeanine Pirro.
