Defensive Woes and Bench Production
According to Scott, the Lakers' starting lineup lacks defensive resistance. While LeBron James can still contribute on that end, relying on him to carry the load for an entire season at his age is unrealistic. The bench depth also remains a concern, as the Lakers struggled to get consistent production from their reserves during last season's playoffs.
What the Lakers Need
Scott emphasizes the need for more length, size, athleticism, and scoring off the bench. Ideally, the Lakers should target a 3-and-D guard and another backup center. The team's offseason moves, including the acquisition of Deandre Ayton, were a step in the right direction, but more is needed to elevate them to championship contender status.
Another NBA executive echoed a similar sentiment, calling the Lakers' offseason "Not impressive at all." The pressure is on the front office to build a team around LeBron James and Luka Dončić that can compete in a loaded Western Conference.
