FPT Mourns: Tech Leader Hoang Nam Tien Dies Suddenly at 56
Hoang Nam Tien, a prominent figure in Vietnam's tech industry and Vice Chairman of FPT University's Council, has passed away at the age of 56. He died on July 31st at 4:10 PM due to a stroke and cardiac arrest, as confirmed by FPT Corporation.
Born in Hanoi in 1969, Hoang Nam Tien was the son of General Hoang Dan and National Assembly delegate Nguyen Thi An Vinh. He was a key figure in the development of FPT, having joined the company in 1993.
Before his role at FPT University, he served as Chairman of FPT Software and FPT Telecom. His leadership was instrumental in FPT's growth over three decades. In 2008, as General Director, he guided FPT's distribution company to a revenue of $700 million, contributing 68% of the group's total revenue and helping FPT surpass the $1 billion mark for the first time.
In 2011, he became Chairman of FPT Software and was considered a strong candidate for the CEO position of FPT. After leaving FPT Software, he was elected Chairman of FPT Telecom in March 2020.
