Perth-based lithium producer, Pilbara Minerals Limited (PLS), is making waves in the mining industry with the launch of the Cat® MineStar™ Fleet Management System at its Pilgangoora Operation. This cutting-edge technology promises to significantly enhance both safety and productivity.
The MineStar™ system is designed to meticulously track, monitor, and manage the health, performance, and overall efficiency of the mining fleet. A primary focus is on improving safety by utilising advanced detection capabilities to pinpoint machine locations and their immediate surroundings, thereby preventing potential accidents. The system also gathers real-time data from the equipment and transforms this information into actionable insights, enabling PLS to maximise the operation's full potential.
Andrew Bannon, Project Manager at PLS, highlighted the transformative impact of the new system. "This system brings a step-change in operational precision and material management," he stated. "High-precision machine guidance helps our operators dig, grade, and load according to plan. That means better accuracy and smarter material movement."
Furthermore, the system meticulously tracks the quantity and types of materials moved and loaded, allowing for optimised material control and a significant reduction in waste. Stuart Lange, Mine Control Supervisor, emphasised the system's advanced safety features, stating, "You will be able to see all other assets on your screen as a truck operator. We can also build avoidant zones that warn operators of potential hazards."
