Puntland Forces Crush ISIS! 15 Terrorists Dead in Major Offensive!
GAROWE, Somalia - Puntland forces are celebrating significant victories against ISIS terrorists in eastern Somalia, marking a major blow to the group after eight months of Operation Hillaac. The anti-terrorism campaign has seen strategic gains in the Cal-Miskaad mountains, with ISIS suffering heavy losses.
Key ISIS Strongholds Captured
Following intense operations in the Bari region, Puntland forces have successfully captured key ISIS strongholds, including Eelka Al-Baraka and Af-ka Dharimood. Senior commanders supervising ISIS operations were also apprehended during the 72-hour offensive.
Operation Details and Casualties
According to a statement from Puntland’s Anti-Terrorism Command, at least 15 ISIS fighters were killed in the battles. The operation targeted ISIS bases in Eelka Al-Baraka, Af-ka Dharimood, Eelasha Burti-Iise, and other villages along the Baallade valley.
“The army is still conducting operations to clear the last pockets of ISIS militants from the Baalade valley,” the statement read. “In the latest phase, we captured key positions including Eelka Al-Baraka and Af-ka Dharimood, and killed nearly 15 fighters.”
Multi-Pronged Approach
The fourth phase of Operation Hillaac is being conducted on air, sea, and land, severely limiting the terror group's ability to organize and regroup. This coordinated approach has resulted in the most significant gains since the operation began in December 2024.
Significance of the Cal-Miskaad Mountains
For years, ISIS militants have used the Cal-Miskaad mountains as their primary hideout. Puntland forces' successful clearing of the area marks a crucial victory in the fight against terrorism in the region.
While al-Shabaab remains the dominant insurgent force in Somalia, ISIS has maintained a smaller presence in parts of Bari. Operation Hillaac is now entering its final phase, promising further stability for the region.
