DURBAN - The spotlight intensifies on KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi as two separate investigations vie for his testimony. A power struggle seems to be unfolding between the Madlanga Commission and Parliament's Ad Hoc Committee, both eager to get Mkhwanazi on the stand first.

Madlanga Commission vs. Parliamentary Probe: Who Gets Mkhwanazi First?

Mkhwanazi is currently consulting with evidence leaders from the Madlanga Commission, which is anticipated to begin in less than two weeks. However, the Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee, established to investigate allegations related to Mkhwanazi, is ramping up the pressure. The committee plans to call seven witnesses, many of whom are also likely to be required by the commission, starting from September 22nd. Their deadline is October 31st.

Bheki Cele Added to Witness List in Police Corruption Probe

CAPE TOWN - Adding another layer to the investigation, Parliament's ad hoc committee probing police interference and corruption has added former minister Bheki Cele to its list of witnesses. This decision follows a News24 expose alleging that Cele contacted accused crime kingpin Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala ten times in a single day.

Committee chairperson Soviet Lekganyane confirmed the addition of Cele's name to the witness list. Committee member Ian Cameron emphasized the relevance of Cele's connections to individuals under investigation, particularly in light of the recent allegations.

The committee reports that five of the invited witnesses have already responded and are prepared to provide submissions. The investigation promises to be a thorough examination of alleged police corruption and interference.

  • Mkhwanazi to testify before two separate bodies.
  • Bheki Cele added to the witness list.
  • Parliamentary committee aims to complete its investigation by October 31st.
