Chiefs Missed Out?! Stellenbosch FC's Mthiyane Saga EXPOSED!
Kaizer Chiefs nearly landed Stellenbosch FC's midfield maestro, Mthetheleli Mthiyane! According to reports, the Naturena-based giants showed keen interest in the former Milford FC star after his impressive performances in the PSL. But how did the deal fall through?
Mthiyane's Rise to Prominence
Mthiyane has quickly established himself as a key player for Stellenbosch FC under Steve Barker. His stellar performance in the MTN8 final against Orlando Pirates, where he held his own against established stars, further cemented his reputation as a rising star.
Former Milford FC coach Mandla Qhogi revealed that Chiefs had the opportunity to sign Mthiyane at the end of last season. Speaking exclusively to KickOff.com, Qhogi explained, "There were offers from Chiefs and Stellenbosch. I don’t know what might have happened between Chiefs and him, or how he ended up at Stellenbosch."
Stellenbosch's Gain, Chiefs' Loss?
Qhogi further elaborated on Stellenbosch's interest, stating, "I got a call from Stellenbosch, and they wanted to find more about him in terms of the kind of player [he was] and his behaviour. I gave a good reference because I know the boy. He is a fantastic player who likes to work hard."
- Mthiyane can play as a box-to-box midfielder.
- He is comfortable on the ball and aggressive.
- He is disciplined and dedicated to extra training.
While Mthiyane shines for Stellenbosch, the question remains: What could have been if Chiefs had secured his signature?
Meanwhile, Qhogi is set to embark on his CAF Champions League journey with Nsingingizi Hotspurs, adding another exciting chapter to his coaching career.
