Mitchells Plain is reeling after a 29-year-old man was shot and killed in Lentegeur on Tuesday morning. The incident, believed to be gang-related, occurred in Samantha Street, Montrose Park, sending shockwaves through the community.

Police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi confirmed that officers responded to the scene after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found the victim deceased. According to reports, two gunmen approached the man and opened fire before fleeing. The suspects remain at large.

CCTV footage captured the brazen attack, showing the victim walking when a man in a hoodie approached and shot him in the head. A second assailant then appeared and continued to fire at the victim before both fled the scene. The incident occurred near a mosque around 9am.

Michael Jacobs, Chairperson for the Lentegeur Community Policing Forum, expressed concern over the escalating violence in the area. He stated that numerous shootings have been reported in the same block and urged the community to come forward with any information that could help rid the streets of illegal guns.

Meanwhile, in Kraaifontein, the community is mourning the tragic discovery of two newborn baby girls found dead in separate incidents within days of each other. One baby was found in a sewerage drain in the Vosho informal settlement, while the other was discovered in Belmont Park.
