Eish, the Chicago Bears minicamp was lit! Coach Ben Johnson is chuffed with the progress he's seeing from some of the players. After a fun-filled final day at Halas Hall, where even offensive linemen were catching passes, Johnson singled out four players who've really stood out.
Defense Stepping Up
On the defensive side, defensive end Dominique Robinson and rookie linebacker Ruben Hyppolite II caught Johnson's eye. Robinson, entering his final year of his rookie contract, has been putting in the work, showing consistent speed rushing and contributing on special teams. Johnson mentioned that Robinson 'has popped out'. Hyppolite, a rookie, is still learning the ropes, but Johnson praised his dedication and the coaching he's receiving from Linebackers Coach Richard Smith. 'He's swimming a little bit, but he's taking it seriously,' Johnson said.
Offensive Standouts
The offense also had its shining stars. Tight end Joel Wilson has been making big catches during OTAs, showing consistency and reliability. And in the running back room, rookie Kyle Monangai has stepped up, impressing with his performance.
Johnson emphasized that he's focusing on the present, not dwelling on the past. He wants to see who he can trust to catch or throw the ball, hinting at potential trick plays in the future. Speaking about trick plays, Backup quarterback Case Keenum made an impressive behind-the-back catch about 50 yards down the field!
