Orlando Pirates fans are still reeling from the news of Paseka Mako's departure, but the destination of the talented wing-back has now been confirmed. Despite Pirates' best efforts to retain his services, Mako has penned a three-year deal with their Soweto rivals, Kaizer Chiefs, effective from 1 July.

Mako's contract with the Buccaneers was due to expire this June, and the club announced his exit alongside Thabiso Monyane. While many expected him to consider offers from elsewhere, the move to Naturena has surprised many within the football fraternity.

Sources close to Orlando Pirates suggest that Mako may have already signed a pre-contract agreement with Kaizer Chiefs following the Nedbank Cup final in Durban back in May. This would explain why Pirates' late attempts to extend his contract proved unsuccessful.

"Pirates did everything they could to keep Mako," one source revealed. "They were keen to extend his stay, even with plans beyond his playing days, but the player had already made up his mind to go to Kaizer Chiefs."

What Does This Mean for Kaizer Chiefs?

The acquisition of Paseka Mako represents a significant coup for Kaizer Chiefs. The experienced wing-back brings versatility, pace, and a proven track record in the PSL. His arrival will undoubtedly bolster the Amakhosi's squad as they look to challenge for silverware next season. The Glamour Boys are expected to unveil Mako, along with other new signings, in the coming weeks. The team is also slated to travel to the Netherlands for pre-season training next month.

Monyane Also Departs Pirates

Adding to the upheaval at Orlando Pirates, Thabiso Monyane has also left the club. These departures follow the earlier confirmation that Innocent Maela and Miguel Timm would be leaving at the end of the 2024-25 campaign, signaling a period of significant change at the club.
