BMW South Africa has unveiled a stunning new M2, the 333i Homage, paying tribute to the iconic E30 333i, a South Africa-exclusive model from the 1980s. This special edition M2 boasts a unique combination of modern performance and retro styling, sure to excite BMW enthusiasts.
A Nod to the Past
The original 333i was a collaborative effort between BMW, BMW Motorsport, and ALPINA, created as an alternative to the M3, which wasn't available in South Africa at the time. Only 204 units were built between 1985 and 1986, each powered by a 3.2-liter engine. A quirky limitation meant buyers had to choose between power steering or air conditioning!
The M2 Gets the Homage Treatment
Thankfully, the new 333i Homage doesn't suffer from such constraints. Based on the G87 M2, this special edition is instantly recognizable thanks to its ALPINA wheels, a stylish nod to its predecessor. A striking M stripe runs along the car's profile and trunk, and the iconic blue, purple, and red motif also features in one of the kidney grilles.
More Than Just Looks
The 333i Homage goes beyond aesthetics. It features a center-exit exhaust with stacked tips from the M Performance Parts catalog, complete with a titanium silencer that reduces weight. Carbon fiber add-ons from BMW’s M accessories lineup further enhance the sporty appearance.
Available in Zandvoort Blue, Alpine White, Sapphire Black, and Fire Red, the interior features a unique Überkaro tartan on the center console, echoing the 325iS, another special edition unveiled alongside it. A commemorative plaque highlights the exclusivity of this limited-run model: only 33 cars will be produced.
This M2 333i Homage is a testament to BMW's rich history in South Africa, blending classic design cues with modern performance for a truly special driving experience. It's a must-have for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
