Get ready, petrolheads! Cape Town is set to become a haven for motorsport enthusiasts this weekend as the City hosts the exhilarating Speed Classic car event. Philip Kgosana Drive will be transformed into a thrilling 1.8km-long motorsport track, promising a weekend of high-octane action.
Road Closures and Alternative Routes
Philip Kgosana Drive will be closed for the duration of the event. Spectators are encouraged to utilise the convenient shuttle service operating from the Civic Centre. JP Smith of the City of Cape Town also announced that parking will be available at Good Hope Seminary Junior School on Vredehoek Avenue.
Traffic Advisory
Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly and consider alternative routes into the city, including the N1 (incoming and outgoing) and the N2 (incoming and outgoing). The City apologises for any inconvenience caused by the road closures.
"Traffic diversions via alternative routes will be in place to ensure that those who normally use Philip Kgosana Drive can still reach their destinations on time," Smith stated. He also mentioned that Christiaan Street and Service Road will be affected.
Boosting the Economy
While acknowledging the potential disruptions, Smith highlighted the significant benefits of such events. "While we recognise the inconvenience such events may cause, they play a vital role in creating jobs and boosting the local economy."
So, buckle up and get ready for a weekend of speed, thrills, and roaring engines at the Cape Town Speed Classic!
