The Paris Masters has undergone a major transformation this year, moving from its long-time home at the Bercy Arena after 38 years. This shift has sparked reactions from players, including former champions Daniil Medvedev and Karen Khachanov.
Khachanov's Perspective: Missing the Old, Appreciating the New
Karen Khachanov, the world number 13 and 2018 Paris Masters champion, shared his thoughts on the changes with Tennis Bolshoi. While he admitted to missing the old Centre Court, which he considered one of the most beautiful indoor courts in the world, he acknowledged significant improvements in the tournament's facilities.
"I would say that the Centre Court [Old Paris Masters venue] was one of the most beautiful in indoor tournaments in the world 100%, but the tournament itself was not very organised for a Masters tournament," Khachanov explained. He highlighted improvements in areas such as the first court, food options, and the overall venue ambiance. "It seems to me that now in the new place everything looks luxurious."
More Courts, Better Food, Enhanced Experience
Khachanov also noted the increased number of courts at the main stadium, now five compared to the previous three, providing better training opportunities. He praised the improved food quality and emphasized the clearly visible enhancements throughout the tournament setup.
Medvedev Echoes the Sentiment
Daniil Medvedev's views aligned with Khachanov's, suggesting a general consensus among players regarding the positive impact of the venue change. The new Centre Court at La Défense Arena boasts a capacity of 16,500 spectators, exceeding the old venue's 15,609, offering an enhanced experience for both players and fans.
While some may miss the nostalgia of the Bercy Arena, the Paris Masters appears to have embraced its new home, offering improved facilities and a more luxurious experience for all involved.
