Gauteng Braces for Cold and Wet Weather Overnight

Gauteng is preparing for a night of severe weather as the South African Weather Service has issued a Level 2 warning for thunderstorms across the province. The warning is in effect from 2pm today, November 6th, 2025, until the early hours of Friday morning.

Residents should expect hail, strong winds, and heavy rain, which could lead to flooding, property damage, and disruptions to essential services. Authorities are urging extreme caution, advising people to avoid flooded roads and stay clear of open areas during periods of lightning.

Lehlohonolo Thobela of the Weather Service warns that the storms are expected to impact a wide area:

  • Gauteng
  • Southern Limpopo
  • North West
  • Eastern Northern Cape
  • Free State
  • Southwestern Mpumalanga

A Yellow Level 2 warning is also in place for the western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, particularly around Newcastle. Tomorrow, cloudy conditions are expected to persist in the eastern provinces, with a 60% chance of showers in North West, Gauteng, Free State, and the northern parts of the Northern Cape.

Stay safe and informed. Keep an eye on weather updates and heed the advice of local authorities.
