Kaizer Chiefs' DStv Diski Challenge assistant coach, Dillon Sheppard, is confident that preparation will give his players the psychological edge needed to overcome recent disappointing results. Amakhosi, the previous season's DDC champions, have struggled to replicate their past success in the 2025/26 season.
Their current position on the Diski Challenge table is a far cry from their previous triumphs. They face Polokwane City this Saturday at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto, with kick-off scheduled for 10am. The team is currently on a seven-match winless streak, having lost twice and drawn five times.
The last time the 2024/24 Diski Champions tasted victory was on September 14th, when they defeated Stellenbosch FC 3-2. Following the Polokwane match, Chiefs will face their Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates, who are currently leading the league.
Sheppard stressed the importance of building momentum for the derby and their upcoming UK tour in three weeks. He stated, "There's no doubt we will bounce back. We will focus on our performances, and the results will be sorted."
After nine league matches, Amakhosi find themselves in a disappointing 11th place with 11 points. Their lack of killer instinct has been a major issue, as they have only managed to score 11 goals so far.
"If you look at the performances, how we played in the last four, five games, we have been dominant," Sheppard added. "We are working on the final decision-making in the final third." Can Amakhosi turn their fortunes around and rediscover their championship form?
