Jannik Sinner has capped off an incredible 2025 season by defeating world number one Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets to defend his ATP Finals title in Turin. The Italian star showcased his dominance on indoor hard courts, extending his unbeaten streak to an impressive 31 matches.
For the second consecutive year, Sinner claimed the coveted title without dropping a single set throughout the entire tournament. He secured the victory with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-4) 7-5 win in the final.
This victory marks Sinner's second win in six finals against Alcaraz this season, narrowing their head-to-head record to 10-6. Despite missing out on the year-end number one ranking, Sinner has enjoyed a remarkable year, highlighted by two Grand Slam titles and reaching all four major finals.
Although he faced a three-month suspension due to a doping ban, Sinner bounced back strongly, clinching six titles – the second-best haul of his career – after reaching the final in 10 of the 12 tournaments he entered. His triumph in Turin further solidifies his impressive record at the end-of-season showpiece, where he hasn't lost a match since his defeat to Novak Djokovic in the 2023 final.
Sinner now joins an elite group of players, becoming only the fourth player this century to successfully defend the men's singles title, alongside Lleyton Hewitt, Roger Federer, and Djokovic.
How Sinner Secured the Victory
The final was a tense affair, with both players displaying incredible skill and determination. After a tight first set where neither player could secure a break, Sinner saved a set point with a powerful second serve.
He then took control in the tie-break, capitalizing on a series of backhand errors from Alcaraz and executing precise lobs to clinch the first set.
In the second set, Alcaraz broke Sinner's serve for the first time in the tournament. However, Sinner quickly restored parity and dominated the remainder of the set. Alcaraz, visibly struggling with a bandaged right thigh, couldn't match Sinner's intensity.
Serving at 6-5, Sinner saved a game point with a stunning backhand return. He then secured the championship when Alcaraz sent a shot long, sealing his back-to-back ATP Finals victory.
