Gauteng Weather Alert! Storms & Flooding Threaten SA - Are You Ready?

Severe Weather Warnings Issued Across South Africa

Johannesburg – South Africans brace yourselves! The SA Weather Service has issued urgent severe weather warnings for central and eastern parts of the country, effective Wednesday, 19 November 2025. Expect heavy rains, thunderstorms, and potential localised flooding across Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, and parts of the Eastern Cape.

Gauteng was already hit hard over the weekend with unexpected heavy rains. Emergency services are urging residents and motorists to exercise extreme caution.

What to Expect Today and Tomorrow (18-19 November 2025)

  • Central & Eastern Regions: Isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers.
  • Yellow Level 2 Warning: Severe thunderstorms are expected.
  • Yellow Level 1 Warning: Further severe thunderstorms possible.

While the worst of the weather may be passing, conditions remain unsettled. Forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela advises continued vigilance, particularly in low-lying areas. “Do take caution if you’re around the lowveld. But if you’ll be in Gauteng, expect it to be cloudy there, with cold temperatures,” he stated. “We’ll see a decrease of more of the inclement weather, especially from tomorrow, as we’re not having much more of these adverse weather conditions.”

Stay Safe!

Motorists are strongly advised to avoid submerged roads and bridges. Keep up-to-date with weather alerts and heed the warnings issued by emergency services. Stay safe South Africa!
