A Markham hair salon, Tata Hair Muse, located at 321 Kennedy Rd., Unit 1066, in Unionville, has been cited for violations of the Health Protection and Promotion Act after a recent inspection by York Region Public Health officials. The inspection, which took place on November 20th, revealed several concerning issues related to cleanliness and hygiene.
What Were the Violations?
According to York Region, inspectors observed the following compliance infractions:
- Failure to maintain floors in good repair, easily cleanable, of a smooth and impermeable material, and maintained in a sanitary condition.
- Failure to maintain fixtures in good repair, easily cleanable, of a smooth and impermeable material, and maintained in a sanitary condition.
- Failure to ensure reusable equipment is cleaned and disinfected or sterilized between each use.
The most serious charge was that the floor was not maintained in a sanitary condition.
What Does This Mean for Customers?
While these charges don't automatically mean the salon has failed its health inspection, they do highlight significant problems that need to be addressed. York Region gives businesses a chance to rectify these issues and come back into compliance.
It is important to note that charges do not necessarily result in a failure of the health inspection – they simply highlight problems the establishments must address. The businesses are given a chance to get back into compliance and pass the health inspection.
York Region Public Health officials conduct regular inspections of personal service setting facilities such as barbershops/hairdressing salons to ensure public health and safety. The YorkSafe Inspection Program website (york.ca/yorksafe) provides information about inspections of various establishments in the region, including food businesses, salons, spas, and recreational water facilities.
