World number one Scottie Scheffler is geared up for a shot at consecutive major titles as the US Open tees off this Thursday at the formidable Oakmont Country Club. The course, known for its demanding rough, lightning-fast greens, and strategically placed bunkers, is already earning a reputation among golfers, including Scheffler, as one of the most challenging courses they might ever encounter.

Defending US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau didn't mince words, stating, "This is probably the toughest golf course in the world right now." Scheffler echoed this sentiment, highlighting the penalising nature of the rough. He pointed out, "What's so special about this place is pretty much every time you're off the fairway it's going to be very difficult for you to get the ball to the green."

Scheffler, who has been in phenomenal form with nine wins last year (including an Olympic gold medal), is certainly a hot favourite. He's secured victory in three of his last four starts, setting the stage for an epic showdown against the iconic Oakmont course. His tee time is scheduled for 1:25pm (5:25pm GMT), where he'll be joined by fellow American Collin Morikawa and Norway's Viktor Hovland.

Having clinched the PGA Championship last month, Scheffler is aiming to become the first golfer to win consecutive majors since Jordan Spieth achieved the feat in 2015. Despite the pressure and the odds in his favour, Scheffler remains focused and unperturbed by external influences, particularly after a somewhat chaotic experience with his Venmo account due to betting activity. He humorously explained, "I was either getting paid by people or people requesting me a bunch of money when I didn't win. It wasn't a good feeling."

Other notable players to watch include Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau, who are also set to tackle Oakmont early on. Golf enthusiasts and analysts are keenly observing the performance of players like Corey Conners, a Canadian golfer consistently performing well in major tournaments.

The US Open at Oakmont promises to be a thrilling test of skill and resilience for the world's top golfers. Stay tuned for updates and results as the tournament unfolds!
