UNESCO and the Sustainable Arts and Crafts Institute of Thailand (SACIT) have partnered with ICONCRAFT to launch "UNESCO x SACIT x ICONCRAFT: A Celebration of Thai Artisans and Creative Cities." This nationwide initiative shines a spotlight on Thailand's rich cultural heritage and the innovative spirit of its creative communities.

A Celebration of Thai Textile Traditions

The campaign showcases the unique textile traditions of the seven UNESCO Creative Cities in Thailand: Phuket, Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Sukhothai, Phetchaburi, Chiang Rai, and Suphanburi. Master artisans' heritage textiles are reimagined into contemporary fashion pieces by leading Thai design houses, including SIRIVANNAVARI.

UNESCO Director-General's Visit

The launch event was graced by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay during her first official visit to Thailand. This collaboration aims to empower cultural entrepreneurs, promote sustainable innovation, and encourage young people to pursue careers in the creative economy. It also reinforces Thailand's commitment to the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), a global network of over 350 cities.

Fashion Collaboration Highlights

The exhibition features a unique collaboration between seven top-tier Thai fashion brands and local artisan groups. Each designer created two exclusive outfits inspired by a different Creative City, resulting in a stunning collection of 14 looks.

  • Showcasing the incredible talent of Thai artisans.
  • Promoting Thailand's creative economy.
  • Supporting sustainable innovation in the fashion industry.

This partnership is a testament to Thailand's dedication to preserving its cultural heritage while embracing contemporary design and innovation.
