Middelburg, Mpumalanga – The FNB Under-18 Craven Week 2025 wrapped up with DHL Western Province (WP) emerging as a dominant force, capping off an impressive run with a victory in the final match against South Western Districts (SWD). Meanwhile, SA Rugby has announced the SA Schools and SA Schools ‘A’ squads, recognising the top talent from the week-long tournament.

WP Triumph at Craven Week Finale

WP secured a hard-fought 27-21 win over SWD in a thrilling finale. The Eagles drew first blood, but WP responded with tries from Jaden Ocks, captain Josh Neill (named Player of the Tournament), and Quintin Potgieter. SWD mounted a comeback, but WP held on to secure the victory and an unbeaten Craven Week campaign.

Earlier in the day, the Blue Bulls showcased their attacking prowess with a 76-24 thrashing of Eastern Province, while the Obaro Golden Lions edged out Western Province XV 27-26. Free State controlled their match against the Sharks High Schools, securing a convincing win.

SA Schools Squads Revealed

Following the Craven Week, SA Rugby announced the SA Schools and SA Schools ‘A’ squads. Eight players who featured in the 2024 squads have been re-selected, including WP's Josh Neill, Markus Muller, Briint Davids, and Jordan Jooste. Western Province boasts the most representatives across both squads.

“Your hard work, dedication, and performance have earned you this honour,” said SA Rugby President Mr Mark Alexander, congratulating the selected players. “These young athletes represent the future of South African rugby.”

SA Schools vs SA Schools ‘A’

The two squads will face off in a highly anticipated match at Hoërskool Middelburg on 17 July. Lwazi Zangqa (Border) will coach the SA Schools side, assisted by Cobus van Dyk (Bulls), while Flash Malinga (Sharks) will lead the SA Schools ‘A’ team, assisted by Clinton van Rensburg (Western Province).
