Rand Water Maintenance Alert: Prepare for Disruptions!

Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni residents, brace yourselves! Rand Water has announced planned maintenance that will significantly impact water supply in several areas. This isn't a drill; prepare for potential disruptions lasting up to four days, starting July 15th, 2025.

Ekurhuleni Affected Areas:

The City of Ekurhuleni has confirmed that the maintenance will cause water supply interruptions in Kempton Park, Edenvale, Bedfordview, Germiston, and Thembisa. Residents should anticipate these interruptions between 05:00 on Tuesday, 15 July, and 07:00 on Friday, 18 July 2025. Full restoration could take up to eight days, with high-lying areas experiencing longer recovery times.

Affected areas in Ekurhuleni include a large swathe of suburbs, including:

  • Edenvale/Bedfordview
  • Kempton Park CBD, Glen Marais, Aston Manor, Nimrod Park, Bredell, and surrounds
  • Dawnview, Fishers Hill, Solheim, Wychwood, and areas in Germiston
  • Large parts of Thembisa including Ililiba, Emmangweni, Isekelo, and more.

Johannesburg Affected Areas:

Johannesburg Water has also issued a warning, stating that residents should anticipate low water pressure or no water at all during the maintenance period. The maintenance will specifically affect areas supplied by the Sandton and Midrand systems, as well as those reliant on the Alexander Park, Linksfield, and Randjieslaagte reservoirs.

What to Expect and How to Prepare:

Nombusi Shabalala, spokesperson for Johannesburg Water, emphasizes the importance of preparation. Residents are advised to store sufficient water for drinking, cooking, and hygiene purposes. Consider filling bathtubs, buckets, and other containers to ensure you have an adequate supply. Rand Water will deploy water tankers to affected areas in Ekurhuleni, with details to be communicated through the city's digital platforms.

This planned maintenance is crucial for Rand Water to maintain its infrastructure and ensure long-term water security. However, the temporary disruptions require proactive planning from residents to mitigate the inconvenience. Stay informed through official channels and prepare accordingly!
