Nigerian Military Prevents Major Terrorist Attack in Niger State
A major terrorist attack was averted in Niger State, Nigeria, thanks to a joint military operation by Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) troops. The troops intercepted and neutralized a significant number of insurgents attempting to infiltrate local communities.
The confrontation occurred on July 22, 2025, as a large group of terrorists advanced from the Baban Doka axis of Maru Local Government Area in Zamfara State, moving towards Ragada and Warari communities in Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to Captain Adewusi, Media Information Officer of OPFY, troops from the Mariga and Zuru axes quickly mobilized and launched a coordinated offensive near Inana Village in Rijau LGA. The ensuing firefight resulted in the deaths of numerous terrorists.
Air Support Proves Crucial
The success of the ground assault was significantly aided by the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA. They provided vital surveillance and air strikes, enabling ground forces to maintain tactical superiority throughout the battle.
Weapons and Equipment Recovered
During the mop-up operation, troops recovered a substantial cache of weapons and equipment from the terrorists. This included two AK-47 rifles, a loaded magazine with five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and 18 motorcycles believed to be intended for mobility and escape. Communication devices and other items were also seized.

Tragically, one soldier was fatally wounded during the intense firefight.
